NOLA Note*
The Mardi Gras Jester is a figure that has been associated with the carnival and mardi gras celebrations for centuries. The jester is traditionally depicted as a fool or clown, and their role is to provide amusement and entertainment. The origin of the mardi gras jester is thought to date back to ancient Rome, where they were known as “fools” or “joculatores.” The tradition was then adopted by the French during the Middle Ages, and the jester became a staple of mardi gras celebrations in New Orleans.
